Graduation ceremony
A graduation ceremony is a formal event at Charles University at which the university bids farewell to its graduates (bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree holders); during the ceremony, the graduate takes the academic oath (in Latin) and receives a diploma from the presiding professor, which entitles them to use their academic titles.
Graduation ceremonies at CU SPORT are held three times a year, depending on the date of the final state examination (SZZK):
The graduation ceremony in its present ceremonial form is held in the Grand Hall of the Karolinum (Master's and doctoral graduations) or in the Hall of the House for Professed at Lesser Town Square (Bachelor's graduations) and applies university insignia and ceremonial suits (gowns).
Graduation ceremonies in doctoral study programmes are determined by the number of graduates and take place both separately by faculty and jointly for several faculties. Joint graduation ceremonies are organised by the Department for Studies and Student Affairs of the RUK (Doctoral Studies Department) on the basis of faculties' submissions and are held twice a year - in May and November. Separate graduations are arranged by the respective faculty once or twice a year depending on the number of graduates.
