A bachelor's or master's thesis is a compulsory part of every bachelor's and master's degree programme. It is an independent academic paper that allows students to demonstrate their ability to work with scholarly sources, analyse a chosen topic, and draw well-founded conclusions.

Writing a final thesis helps students deepen their knowledge in a selected area, develop research and analytical skills, and gain experience in planning and completing an extensive academic project. The thesis should demonstrate that the student has acquired the knowledge and competencies expected of graduates and can apply them to address a specific research question or practical problem.

Bachelor's and master's theses follow the same general principles and academic standards. The main differences lie in their scope, complexity, and the level of independent work expected from the student.

The preparation, submission and publication of final theses at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, Charles University are governed by Dean´s Directive no. 5/2024.

All final theses must include a Declaration on the Use of Generative AI, regardless of whether generative AI was used in their preparation. For more information click here.

If your thesis involves research with human participants, animals, or identifiable biological material or data, you must obtain approval from the relevant ethics committee before starting your research.
