Charles University is committed to the principles of equal treatment, non-discrimination, and equal opportunity. The objectives and measures are specified in the key documents (Statutes, Code of Ethics, Collective Bargaining Agreement, Basic Principles of Human Resources Policy, Strategic Plan).
Faculty of Physical Education and Sport identified the need for a strategic approach to sports. In 2022, a network of like-minded European universities was established, and an application was submitted for a Horizon project. The initiative to collaborate on gender equality plans received financial support.
Since 2023, Charles University, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport has been a partner in the SUPPORTER project, which focuses on equality and non-discrimination.
The SUPPORTER project (SecUring sPORTs Education thRough innovative and inclusive Gender Equality Plans) is an initiative funded by the Horizon Europe programme, running from April 2023 to September 2025. The project supports eight higher education sports institutions from Central and Eastern Europe and three expert organizations in developing inclusive, innovative, intersectional, and impactful gender equality plans (known as 4I-GEPs). These plans also explicitly focus on preventing and addressing gender-based violence and harassment.
Charles University, through its Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, is one of the project partners. The faculty actively participated in all phases - from the initial self-assessment and capacity building to the development and implementation of its own Equal Opportunity Plan (GEP). One of the main outcomes of our participation was the development and approval of the faculty’s GEP, making us the first faculty at Charles University to prepare its own plan specifically tailored to the unique characteristics of its academic field. The faculty GEP is based on the university’s Equal Opportunities Plan, which was adopted for the period 2022-2024 and renewed in 2025 for the period 2025–2027.
As part of the project’s outcomes, Charles University hosted the project’s final conference at the Rector’s Office in June 4-5, 2025. A total of 200 participants, including students, academics, and members of the public, attended.
