EqualEdu

Erasmus KA2

The EqualEdu project (Erasmus+ KA220-HED) focuses on promoting gender equality, equity, and inclusion in higher education in Europe, particularly in the field of health sciences. It addresses persistent structural inequalities at universities by developing new pedagogical strategies and institutional approaches that integrate topics of affective-sexual and gender diversity into the academic environment.

The EqualEdu project brings together five institutions from different parts of Europe

University of Málaga (Spain) – project coordinator
Charles University (Czech Republic)
University of Malta (Malta)
University of Rome "La Sapienza" (Italy)
Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (Portugal)
Kaunas University of Applied Sciences (Lithuania)

As part of the project, the partners are collaborating on the following activities

Assessment of the current state of equality and inclusion at individual institutions through participatory research and institutional analysis
Development and testing of training modules for the faculty members focused on inclusive education
Development of a self-assessment tool for institutions in the field of gender equality and inclusion
Collaboration on the development of an institutional action plan to achieve a more equitable, inclusive, and diverse academic environment

The project also includes international partner meetings, which serve to coordinate efforts and share experiences

The kick-off meeting took place in 2024 in Málaga, Spain, where the partners aligned their approaches and launched their research activities
The second meeting took place in Malta in 2024 and focused on sharing national contexts and jointly developing educational materials
The third meeting took place in September 2025 in Prague and was hosted by Charles University, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport

On behalf of Charles University, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport is participating in the project, particularly Department of Physiotherapy, which is also involving its students in the project.

Through a combination of research, capacity-building, and institutional engagement, EqualEdu helps European universities become truly inclusive environments - addressing gender exclusion and strengthening academic culture across Europe.+
