Selected gymnastics subjects focus on the cultivation of movement expression, movement literacy and the aesthetic concept of physical activity and the experience of movement as a compensation for the current lifestyle. Furthermore, the creation and verification of the effectiveness of programs aimed at the prevention of injuries and muscular imbalances, the influence of the components of physical fitness and motor-functional prerequisites and, last but not least, music and movement education.  

The courses provided by the department focus on the training process in gymnastic and combat sports, in the field of sports for all, performance and top sports, including applications for people with specific needs. Another area is also the applicability of tumbling skills in self-defense as maintaining an optimal level of perception of self safety and framing in tumbling in fitness.   

Research and scientific publishing activities are focused on the investigation of the quality of movement and selected aspects of sports performance in gymnastic and combat sports, and on pedagogical research of these disciplines in school physical education. Another focus is the monitoring of the impact of professional/amateur sport participation on quality of life.   

Additional activities of the department are focused on supporting quality practice that reflects the current requirements of society, modernization of teaching and implementation of new teaching practices in the framework of further education of teaching staff.
